Any caravan or motorhome owner who has spent twenty minutes on their hands and knees, pushing chocks under a wheel in the rain, knows why automatic levelling exists. The pitch routine is meant to be: arrive, unhitch, kettle on. In reality, it's: arrive, dig out the ramps, reposition, check the spirit level, reposition again, swear, kettle on.
E&P Hydraulics has been building automatic levelling systems in the Netherlands for decades. Four hydraulic jacks mount under the chassis, a control unit reads the vehicle's angle, and the pumps do the rest. Why level actually matters (beyond comfort):

Two Systems, One Job - Level in Under Two Minutes
CoachBuilt supplies and fits the two core E&P systems: Level C for caravans, Level M for motorhomes. Both are fully automatic hydraulic systems. Both operate on the same "press a button, walk away" principle. What differs is the chassis mounting, the jack configuration, and the specifics of how the system integrates with the vehicle.
E&P LEVEL M - MOTORHOME LEVELLING SYSTEM
Who it's for: Motorhomes across the standard weight range, single or twin axle. Works with AL-KO, BPW, and other leading chassis.

E&P LEVEL C - CARAVAN LEVELLING SYSTEM
Who it's for: Any single-axle or twin-axle touring caravan. Whether you're weekending or on a seasonal pitch, Level C removes the arrival hassle completely.
How it works: Four hydraulic jacks plus two corner steadies give you six rock-solid support points under the caravan. The control unit senses the pitch and roll, the pumps extend the jacks to bring you level, and everything locks into a stable position. Total time from button-press to ready: under two minutes.

Supply and fit - Why the installation matters as much as the system
Anyone can supply an E&P system. Fewer can fit one properly.
CoachBuilt is a certified E&P installer. Every motorhome levelling system and caravan levelling system we fit is installed at our Nuneaton workshop, by the same team that services them afterwards. That matters more than it sounds.
An E&P system is a good piece of engineering, but the long-term reliability of any installation comes down to how it's fitted:

Bracket alignment. The jacks mount to reinforced points on the chassis. Get the alignment wrong and you introduce stress into the frame every time the system deploys. Get it right and the load spreads exactly as E&P designed it to.

Hydraulic line routing. Lines have to run cleanly, protected from heat, movement, and abrasion. A poorly routed line will chafe against the chassis over the first six months and start leaking in year two.

Control unit placement. The control unit needs to be accessible for diagnostics and firmware updates, but out of the way of luggage, damp, and general knocks. Some workshops just find the nearest cupboard. That's the reason systems become hard to service later.

Electrical integration. The system draws power from the leisure battery and needs to talk to the vehicle's electrical system without conflicts. Cheap installations wire it in and hope. Proper installations use a fused connection with a labelled circuit that any technician can trace in ten minutes.

After the install - What happens if something goes wrong
E&P systems are maintenance-light, not maintenance-free. Real-world use means the following are worth checking periodically:

Hydraulic fluid level and any signs of weeping around jack seals

Jack seal condition - seals wear over years of extend-retract cycles, particularly on vehicles used year-round

Control unit firmware - E&P releases updates that improve level sensing and fault reporting

Electrical connections - corrosion at ring terminals is the most common cause of intermittent faults, especially on caravans stored outside

The cost depends on your specific vehicle - chassis type, weight, mounting-point access, and whether it's a new build or a retrofit. Because those variables can change the fitting complexity significantly, we quote every installation individually rather than publishing a fixed price. As a rough guide, expect to invest between £3,500–£7,000 including professional installation.

What is the difference between the E&P Level C and the Level M?
The Level C is designed for touring caravans and includes four hydraulic jacks plus two corner steadies (six support points total). The Level M is designed for motorhomes and uses four hydraulic jacks. Both are fully automatic and level the vehicle in under two minutes. Level C is caravan-specific because the six-point setup handles the different weight distribution and stability requirements of a static caravan on a pitch; Level M is optimised for the chassis and driving dynamics of a motorhome.
Can an E&P levelling system be fitted to any motorhome?
Most standard and accessible motorhomes can take an E&P system, but not all. Chassis geometry, existing modifications, and mounting-point access can all affect feasibility. Some newer chassis types have limited underslung space, and certain aftermarket modifications (extra tanks, upgraded suspension) can restrict mounting options. We carry out a vehicle-specific assessment before we quote - that's the only honest way to answer this question for a particular motorhome.
Can E&P levelling be fitted to a wheelchair accessible motorhome or caravan?
Yes. CoachBuilt fits E&P systems to every wheelchair accessible build as standard. The installation is more involved than on a standard vehicle because the hydraulic lines and control wiring have to route around wheelchair lifts, floor cut-outs, and tie-down hardware - but this is specialist work we do every day. For a wheelchair user, an unlevel floor isn't just uncomfortable, it's a safety issue, which is why we treat E&P as core rather than optional on accessible builds.
How long does E&P levelling installation take?
A typical E&P installation takes 1–2 days at our Nuneaton workshop. More complex installations - unusual chassis types, retrofits with limited access, or fits combined with other modifications - may take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline as part of the quote.
Does an E&P levelling system need annual servicing?
E&P systems are designed to be low-maintenance, but a periodic check is worth doing to catch small issues (seal wear, connection corrosion, firmware updates) before they become expensive ones. We recommend a health check every 12–24 months depending on use - more often for vehicles stored outside or used year-round. We handle E&P servicing at our workshop.
Can CoachBuilt service or repair an E&P system that was fitted somewhere else?
Case by case. Some third-party installations are perfectly serviceable; others turn out to have installation issues that need addressing before we can warranty any work. We assess these on request - book in for an inspection first and we'll be straight with you about what's involved.
Will the system damage my chassis?
No. E&P designs its mounting kits specifically to distribute load evenly through reinforced points, and the systems are approved for use with AL-KO, BPW, and other leading chassis manufacturers. Correctly fitted, the system reduces long-term chassis stress compared with mechanical levelling methods.
Can I use the E&P jacks to change a tyre?
The hydraulic lifting function can raise the vehicle enough to change a tyre in an emergency, yes. However - never work underneath a vehicle supported by E&P jacks alone. Always use additional axle stands or dedicated supports if you need to be under the vehicle. E&P jacks are levelling jacks, not workshop jacks.
Is the system difficult to operate?
No. One button. Everything else is automatic. Some installations use a wireless remote, others use a dashboard-mounted control. We'll demonstrate operation during handover and you'll be confident using it on day one.

A motorhome levelling system costs between £6,200 and £7,500+ supply and fit in the UK, depending on the system and vehicle. The E&P Level M (for motorhomes up to 5.5 tonnes) typically costs £6,200–£7,000 fully installed. The Level M PRO, for heavier or premium-spec motorhomes, runs from £7,000–£7,500+. These are hydraulic systems - more capable and longer-lasting than electric alternatives, which run £3,000–£5,000 fitted but are better suited to lighter vehicles.
